                           INSTALLATION NOTES
================================================================================

WARNING: It is very important to follow these instructions as they are written.
Failure to update using the proper procedure may cause damage to your system.

Updating from BIOS revisions R0018 or later:

User can update BIOS flash image via either of the following methods...
UEFI iFlash32 2.6 Build 10
   1. Boot the system to EFI Shell
   2. Copy IFlash32.efi and R0063.CAP file to a HD or USB Flash Drive
       ( Do not use the Rec.CAP file as it will clear NVRAM and should
         only be used for Recovery - See Recovery Instructions located in the seperate recovery package )
   3. Map the respective storage device in system with the command
	   Shell> map -r
   4. Change the Shell to mapped device file system
	   Example: Shell> fs0: (or fs1:)
   5. Run the IFlash32 utility on the prompt
	   fs0:\> IFlash32 [File Name] /u /ni
   6. Reboot system after the update is completed.

================================================================================
                        BIOS RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS
================================================================================

The recovery instructions and recovery files are now located in a separate package available for download.

================================================================================
                            KNOWN ISSUES/WORKAROUNDS
================================================================================

- The UEFI iFlash32 BIOS Update Utility should only be used after the R0018 or
  later BIOS version is properly installed on your system. Refer to the section
  regarding INSTALLATION NOTES above.

- If performing BIOS recovery process and the system hangs at POST Code 0x34 before
  the BIOS POST screen appears, it may a require a warm reset via the front panel
  or AC power cycle for recovery to properly detect the recovery media and load
  FVMAIN.FV from the recovery device.

- For S5500BC, S5520HC, S5500HCV, S5520SC, S5520UR, S5500WB & S5500WB12V Platforms,
  please ensure that the BMC FW installed is v0.31 or later before updating to the R0029 or later
  BIOS release. Using BIOS R0029 with any BMC FW prior to v0.31 could cause the
  system to automatically shutdown upon A/C power cycles.

- BIOS R0037 requires a firm key press during POST to get a key accepted.

- BIOS R0048 and later: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 5600 series A0 stepping no longer supported.

- BIOS R54 has implemented the Recovery process enhancement solution to fix the recovery
  dependency of the BIOS variables. When customer enables both recovery Jumper and Clear
  CMOS jumper, BIOS variables in VPD area will be cleared and CMOS values will be set to
  default.

=============================================================================
                         IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES
=============================================================================
- The following update process must be followed to ensure a trouble free
  updating of your baseboard.
	1.BMC firmware to 00.58 or later
	2.BIOS R0060 or later
	3.Manageability Engine (ME) firmware 01.12 or later
	4.Hot-swap backplane HSC firmware 2.17 specific to the chassis
	5.Latest FRU/SDR package specific to the baseboard.

=============================================================================
              INSTALLATION PROCEDURE WITH BMC 00.40 PREINSTALLED
=============================================================================
1. If BMC 00.40 has not been installed then please install that release first
   prior to installing this 00.61 release. The BMC 00.40 update contains
   a critical boot block update which must be present before installing this
   00.61 release.

2. Copy the entire contents of the BMC_0061.zip archive file to the storage
   medium of your choice. This can be a hard disk, floppy disk or USB
   flash drive.
   All of the files in the zip archive must reside in the same directory.

3. Boot to EFI and then run the updBMC.nsh script file to update the
   Integrated BMC and Intel(R) Remote Management Module 3 firmware.

   Using fwpiaupd.efi with your own command line parameters is not supported
   and doing so is at your own risk!

4. Install latest available FRU/SDR package.

=============================================================================
                           UPDATING THE BOOT BLOCK
=============================================================================
If a boot block update is required you may need to change the command or the
configuration file used.

When using UEFI FWPIAUPD.EFI the NSH file should have the -b (update boot
block) command line switch. The following is an example:
    FWPIAUPD -u -b -bin -o -pia -ni BMC_filename.ima

When using OFU the flashupdt.cfg file parameters may need to be changed. You
may need to add the area parameter so you can specify that the boot block
area should also be loaded. This would be done on the same line as the
firmware image is specified. The following is an example:
    FWDNAME "<BMC_filename.ima>" filetype=fwimg area=boot+opcode+pia+rmm

=============================================================================
                 KNOWN ISSUES/WORKAROUNDS/REQUIREMENTS

  here: http://www.java.com/en/

- Two new features related to the Embedded Web Server were added, it is
  recommended that you clear the cookies and caches of your web browser to

                              ABOUT THIS RELEASE
=============================================================================
This document lists only the differences from the defaults as released by the
MPSD NM team. Please refer to applicable ReleaseNotes.pdf for details.

=============================================================================
                          Configuring and building the image
=============================================================================
The binary ME Region image (further referred to as ME image) is a single
binary file resulting of merge of three components:
1. SPSRecovery.bin
2. SPSOperational.bin
3. XML file that holds specific configurations for the resulting image.

In addition SDR records are built from the XML file for inclusion into
destination platform's SDR.

The ME image and SDR files are configured and built by ftool.exe utility.
Command-line invocation of this utility is automated with .bat scripts.

Editing for configuration:
  To edit the XML file invoke "edit.bat". GUI mode of the ftool.exe utility
  opens and allows editing the XML file holding the configuration parameters.
  See sections below for information about required EPSD XML changes.

Building:
  To build the image from the three components invoke "build.bat".
  The NM binary image file is built and placed in "Build\image" directory.
  The SDR files are built and placed in "Build\SDR" directory.

Note:
  This ME FW Update package will only update the ME FW Operational code, it
  will not update the ME FW Recovery code.

=============================================================================
                            INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
=============================================================================

1. Copy the entire contents of the SPS_01.01.02.007.0_Production_UPDATE.zip
   archive file to the storage medium of your choice. This can be a hard disk,
   floppy disk or USB flash drive.
   All of the files in the zip archive must reside in the same directory.

2. Boot to EFI and then run the upd_ME_dib.nsh script file to update the
   ME firmware.

   Using fwpiaupd.efi with your own command line parameters is not supported
   and doing so is at your own risk!

3. Power off the system and cycle AC power

=============================================================================
                       EPSD changes to the defaults
=============================================================================
Configuration of the image for EPSD platforms requires changes to defaults
included in the originally released MPSD package file(s).

List of XML changes:
- none for SPS_01.01.02.007.0_Production release .

List of SDR changes (need to be done by hand):
- none for SPS_01.01.02.007.0_Production release .
